The tool enables a preliminary assessment of the technical, economic and environmental performance of different technological configurations, supporting decision-making during the early stages of project development.
The European project AIHRE has developed a sizing platform designed to support the design and preliminary assessment of renewable hydrogen projects. The tool enables the assessment of the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of different configurations before undertaking detailed engineering studies, thereby helping to reduce the uncertainty associated with the early stages of project planning.
The platform has been designed as a decision-support tool for companies, public authorities, technology centres and other stakeholders interested in developing renewable hydrogen solutions. Its main objective is to facilitate the comparison of different technological alternatives and business models through a flexible and easily configurable methodology.

To this end, the tool enables users to define the main parameters affecting the feasibility of a hydrogen installation, including on-site renewable energy generation systems, electricity and hydrogen storage systems, electrolysers, fuel cells, energy demand, electricity purchase and sale prices, hydrogen import and export costs, as well as the project's key financial and economic parameters.
Based on this information, the platform calculates key technical, economic and environmental performance indicators, enabling users to compare different alternatives and assess the sensitivity of the results to changes in the initial assumptions. In addition, it simulates the system's performance throughout the project's lifetime—up to 25 years—providing a long-term perspective on its overall performance.
Thanks to its flexibility and ease of use, the tool provides stakeholders with a robust first assessment of renewable hydrogen projects, enabling them to explore multiple technological and market scenarios quickly and on a sound analytical basis. In this way, the application supports strategic decision-making and contributes to accelerating the deployment of innovative renewable hydrogen solutions.
