AIHRE concludes three years of cooperation advancing the renewable hydrogen ecosystem across the POCTEP area

The final event brought together part of the renewable hydrogen ecosystem from Spain and Portugal in Valladolid.

The European project AIHRE, funded by the Interreg POCTEP programme, held its closing event on 22 and 23 June at the headquarters of CIDAUT in Valladolid, the initiative’s coordinating organisation. After three years of collaborative work, the event provided an opportunity to review the project's main achievements and strengthen collaboration among the stakeholders that make up the renewable hydrogen value chain across the Spain–Portugal cross-border region.

The agenda was structured over two days with different objectives. The first was dedicated to the final consortium meeting, where the nine partners reviewed the status of the latest deliverables and addressed the technical and administrative matters needed to successfully complete the official closure of the project, scheduled for the end of June.

New tools

The second day hosted the open event, “Innovation and Cooperation for Renewable Hydrogen”, where AIHRE’s main achievements were presented to representatives from companies, technology centres, public authorities, clusters, universities and other key stakeholders in the renewable hydrogen ecosystem.

Among the results presented, the launch of the AIHRE Sizing Platform, a tool designed to carry out a preliminary assessment of the technical, economic and environmental feasibility of renewable hydrogen-based projects. Developed to support decision-making during the early stages of project development, the platform enables users to analyse different technological configurations and business models, facilitating the planning of future initiatives.

In addition, an overview was given of the various technical publications produced throughout the project, as well as the progress made in the AIHRE Ecosystem, another of the project's major milestones.

AIHRE's legacy

The event concluded with a round-table discussion on the future of renewable hydrogen in the POCTEP area, featuring Javier Robador (H2CYL), Joaquín Villar (Andalusian Energy Agency), Brais Armiño (DigHy) and Francisco Machado (INEGI). During the discussion, the panellists shared their views on the main challenges and opportunities for consolidating a competitive cross-border ecosystem around this technology.

With the celebration of this event, AIHRE brings 36 months of cooperation between Spanish and Portuguese organisations to a close, leaving behind a legacy of new tools, knowledge and collaborative networks that will help accelerate the development of renewable hydrogen and strengthen innovation across the POCTEP area.
